Bizarre Body Art by Japanese Artist Hikaru Cho

We’re all used to crazy Photoshopped distortions and manipulations, but this isn’t a photo manipulation – it’s body art! Japanese artist Hikaru Cho uses acrylics to paint incredibly weird and lifelike pictures onto her human canvases.

Cho, who lives in Tokyo, has the habit of drawing pictures on her own skin when she's bored. This eventually led to a rather strange portfolio of different and fascinating works. Cho always comes up with ingenious ideas which she transforms into incredibly lifelike artworks.

We’ve seen some of these effects before in films. In the movies it’s done with clever special effects. Cho, on the other hand, uses only her paints (and a small plastic prop) to create the same 3D illusion. The realistic effects are emphasized through intricate details which, we assume, can be time consuming.

Cho’s paintings often incorporate elements of humor and, perhaps, social commentary. It’s amazing what you can do with a little bit of paint, a lot of talent, and a great deal of creativity.
